5 Movies All About the PRTY

Now that we’ve been locked away for the better part of half a year and summer has arrived, we could all do with a party. Unfortunately, depending on your state/country, an all-out rager complete with amazing music, free-flowing booze and numerous bodies crammed into a sweaty space are not ideal right now. Instead, we have devised a list of movies so that you can enjoy a party on your screen. Hangover free, without the messy cleanup and you don’t need to spend an hour finding the perfect outfit. Sounds pretty perfect, so grab a friend or lock yourself in and take in a few of these classic party films.

5. Project X (2012)

Director: Nima Nourizadeh

Producer: Todd Phillips

We all know someone that has tried to attempt their very own Project X style legendary party. The found-footage camera style allows us to be in attendance of it and the unfamiliar fresh faces make us feel as if the main characters could be guys at our own high school. Hailed a modern-day Animal House, this film is a must-see party movie, as these three high-schoolers make full use of a parent-free house, allowing debauchery and hedonism of uncharted levels to take precedence.

4. Superbad (2007)

Director: Greg Mottola

You’d be crazy to miss a young Jonah Hill and Michael Cera in Superbad in this laugh out loud coming of age comedy. It surprises you with a sincere, authentic approach to the comedic, awkward duo’s friendship and high school experience, whilst balancing equal amounts of vulgarity and crudeness to ensure hilarious viewings. It’s definitely relatable for anyone that’s tried to buy alcohol underage, and you’ll be Mclovin what ensues between the alcohol purchase and eventual party chaos that occurs, as high jinx inevitably occurs in this end of high school blowout.

3. 21 & Over (2013)

As you may be able to tell, the protagonists are slightly older, but not more mature compared to some of their high school counterparts in other party movies. It’s a race against time as Jeff’s friends convince him to celebrate his 21st by legally drinking at a bar. In usual circumstances this is par for the course on your 18th or 21st, but not when you have an important medical school interview arranged by your domineering father. In those cases, the only thing you can do is go out drinking the night before, get blackout wasted, and make sure your friends are responsible to bring you back…if they even remember your address.

2. House Party (1990)

Director: Reginald Hudlin

House Party is best watched on a Thursday as this throwback could have you feeling nostalgic for the ’90s. Starring popular hip hop duo Kid 'n Play and featuring cameos from Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, and George Clinton among others, you’ll feel the cast in itself is a party for you. If you have the energy, you could settle in to watch all four sequels and see these party revelers raise the roof in this classic movie…quite literally in this exuberant display of music, energy, and sneaking out to the party whilst your dad has dozed off in front of the couch.

1. National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978)

Director: John Landis

No list would be complete without this genre creating a hilarious classic. Produced before many of us were even born, Animal House is widely regarded as the cult film that has influenced some of the films on this list as well as spawned gross-out films in general. Its low brow humor has garnered high critical acclaim though as it is on numerous lists of funniest films of all time and is deemed by the US library of congress as ‘culturally, historically or aesthetically significant’. That definitely can’t be said about most raunchy, screwball adventures taking place at most college fraternity parties, so you know Delta fraternity is a tier above.
